Decolonized Approaches to Human Rights and Social Work

Abstract

The ideological justification of colonial empires is reinforced by social work when the impact of neocolonial policies finds legitimation in our institutions. This chapter will define the standpoint of decolonial social work by addressing approaches in human rights that still fail at making significant impact on the lives of individuals and communities left out by globalization efforts.

The Global North-South terminology is attributed to German Chancellor Willy Brandt who led a commission to study international development in the 1980s. The demarcating line between North and South was also known as the Brandt Line.
