Abstract

The management of hydrographic basins and water resources must consider the environmental susceptibility and the risks of sanitization of soils around the world, especially in Drylands and irrigated perimeters. Soil salinization and sodicity are among the main problems of environmental degradation on the planet and can cause or increase desertification. Furthermore, water quality, lithogenetic salts contained in rocks, sediments, and soils, associated with inadequate irrigation management, can cause serious salinization problems of different degrees and intensity in Areas Susceptible to Desertification. Therefore, the transposition of hydrographic basins in drylands must follow conservationist precepts, with socioeconomic inclusion, focusing on water management at risk of desertification.
