Abstract

Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is defined as the presence of awake daytime hypercapnia and sleep-disordered breathing in an obese individual that can’t be attributed to other conditions associated with alveolar hypoventilation. OHS is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Early detection and treatment are crucial to minimize these adverse effects. Noninvasive positive airway pressure associated with weight loss is the first-line treatment for patients with OHS.
