A Technopolitical Approach of the Feminist Performance Un Violador en tu Camino [A Rapist in Your Path]: Exploratory Insights from Online Videos

Abstract

The chapter presents a technopolitical approach to the communicational and political phenomenon that emerged from the feminist performance Un violador en tu camino created by Las Tesis Collective in Chile in late November 2019. With the aim of adding evidence about the scope and singularity of the phenomenon, aspects of the online dynamics and offline markers of this phenomenon were addressed. The source of data was videos posted on YouTube during November and December 2019. A specific and smaller set of videos representing scenes from replications of the performance in different cities in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil was selected to conduct an exploratory analysis of specific categories (lyrics, actors, and scenery). Findings indicate a constant dynamism between the online and offline spheres in artistic and performative activism, such as Un violador en tu camino, in which audiovisual production assumes a central role as an articulator of both spheres. In this sense, Un violador en tu camino can be characterized as an exemplary case of an artistic-technopolitical strategy in which offline and online elements act simultaneously to strengthen and broaden the feminist global struggle against violence.
