Abstract
The values of journalists are essential to explore to understand their identities in each context. This research has shown that media practitioners believe in certain values they expect to hold themselves accountable to during practice. They use these standards to examine their work and perceptions of their function in society. Through these occupational values, they can answer questions such as who a good journalist is, what roles they have in society, what ethical ideologies journalists perceive to be vital, and whether they should adhere to the concepts of objectivity and neutrality in journalism. This chapter aims to answer the question of occupational values as perceived by journalists in Sierra Leone using the findings derived from the surveys and the qualitative semi-structured interviews conducted on the self-perception of media workers.
