Abstract
We must strive to understand the Ψ-organ, because it is the organ with which we seek to understand—with which we seek to create meaning. Algorithms are a powerful tool, but they are not sufficient to model a Ψ-organ because they mainly reproduce behavior. We must also consider the functional structure of the psyche holistically as it has been developed in psychoanalysis. Then the natural scientific elaboration of consciousness becomes possible, as well as machines with machine consciousness that have the potential to greatly improve living standards, reduce human suffering, and save innumerable lives.
