Abstract
Sentiment analysis studies opinions, sentiments, evaluations, attitudes and emotions as expressed in natural language text. In recent years, sentiment analysis research and applications in the health domain gained in interest. This chapter defines the sentiment analysis problem in the context of healthcare and medicine. It gives an overview on the various facets of medical sentiment. Since medical sentiment goes beyond the distinction of positive from negative opinions, this section aims to help the reader understanding the peculiarities and facets of medical sentiment. At the end, it becomes clear that sometimes it is necessary to even concretise the general definition of medical sentiment for the specific use case under consideration.
