Abstract

Multicellularity has allowed cells to become experts in their fields – be it nerve transmission or hunting down trespassers. The trade-off is that each cell type is restricted in its capacity to do it all and thus cannot self-sustain like a unicellular organism. While adults may think that their bodies are relatively unchanging, the cells that comprise us are dynamic and constantly transforming. At the cellular level, 300+ billion cells are replaced each day to start anew the job of being you.
