Abstract

My interests in Austrian Economics and classical liberalism all began when I was a teenager by being introduced to the writings of Ayn Rand, which soon led me to the works of Carl Menger, Ludwig von Mises, F. A. Hayek, and others. The journey then carried me to attending the first “Austrian” conference in June 1974, and two Institute for Humane Studies summer fellowships during which I had the opportunity to interact with Hayek on a regular basis for an intense “picking of his mind.” As an undergraduate, my professors were Stalinist Marxists, mainstream Keynesians, and Institutionalists. I also participated in the New York University Austrian Economics graduate program, which enabled me to learn from Israel Kirzner and Ludwig Lachmann, and get to know Murray Rothbard.
