Abstract
Many people have a fear of delivering presentations, but in contemporary professional life, the presentation plays a key role. The fear that accompanies public speaking is hard to completely conquer, but would-be presenters can learn techniques to manage their anxiety. Furthermore, presenting successfully on one occasion is very effective at reducing the anxiety of presenting on future occasions. Success really does breed success. Whilst it may be hard to sound genuinely confident, appearing confident is a sure-fire way of making your audience engaged and convinced. The audience then want your presentation to be successful and want you to give them confidence, too. Presenters who are unsure of how to deliver a presentation and who stumble over their words are not likely to sell their ideas or products to an audience. However, if presenters have prepared themselves adequately, this comes across as appropriate confidence, and their performance is likely to be excellent. Maintaining a high level of audience engagement in a presentation is far from simple, particularly in business contexts. Although presentations usually cover important subjects, there is a tendency for content to be fairly indigestible. The presenter needs to transform the subject into something lively and interesting. Audiences watching an enthusiastic presenter frequently go on to develop their own enthusiasm for the topic. Prior to putting together a presentation, research your topic in depth and ensure you are as knowledgeable as possible about the subject.
