Family Businesses in Tourism and Hospitality

Abstract

The aim of the chapter is to examine the effectiveness of government programmes implemented in Port Dickson, Malaysia, through the reactions of those in the family business accommodations. Secondary data, including government documents, blogs, websites, tourism plans, and scholarly publications, were used for this research, which gave enough information on the role of stakeholders. The study examines stakeholders’ role in implementing tourism learning in ecotourism destinations. Overall, educational tourism is implemented in the development of ecotourism in earnest by all stakeholders. Although the approaches implemented vary, it shows effective initiatives to provide a satisfying learning experience to tourists. From the category of implementing agencies, through programmes organized by the Ministry of Tourism, students can raise awareness about the tourism industry, cultivate patriotism, cultivate a culture of tourism among students, avoid social problems, and create unity and strengthen racial integration. The Ministry of Tourism called on students to take the opportunity to gain more experience and knowledge through the 3P programme as it is the most accessible channel for them to learn about the differences in culture, beliefs, language, progress, and customs each other. Promotion should be carried out to increase the number of tourists who come to ecotourism destinations. The promotion must be intensified by updating the authority’s official website information. This incredible promotion from the government will further boost the educational tourism industry on par with other tourism industries. Promotion should be carried out to increase the number of tourists who come to ecotourism destinations. These findings indicate that all government programmes are necessary for family business accommodations. However, there are still problems with the level of acceptance of government programmes due to weaknesses in programme implementation. The results of this study can be a reference for the government to improve programmes in helping the development of family business accommodations.
