Abstract
The introductory chapter provides a short history computing, beginning with the logic of Aristotle, mathematic formulation of logic by Boole and De Morgan and early work of Babbage and Lovelace on mechanical computing devices. The origins of digital computing are discussed from both the hardware and software perspectives, followed by a history of Matlab and some reasons to learn Matlab.
