Abstract

Teledermatology is a form of telemedicine that has enabled the rapid delivery of dermatologic care in multiple countries. According to the 2015 global survey on eHealth by the World Health Organization, 46% of 125 countries indicated that some type of teledermatology service was being offered to citizens. This is up from 38% out of 114 responding countries from the previous 2009 global eHealth survey. While teledermatology utilization has generally increased worldwide due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic, variations in country-specific adoption and implementation have been observed. Differences in healthcare regulations, technology infrastructure, and cultural attitudes towards alternative healthcare delivery models compared to conventional face-to-face visits have dramatically shaped teledermatology practices internationally. In this chapter, we provide a rigorous overview of the international teledermatology landscape, emphasizing the history and current usage of teledermatology in non-US developed countries.
