Abstract

Hypnosis is widely thought to have existed since prehistoric times [1]. The oldest known text on hypnosis in China was in the Huangdi Neijing (written during the Warring States period, 475–221 BC). Few decades later, aside from China, “sleep temples” in the ancient Greek and Roman ages were used to create a sleep-like condition, which can be considered the first hypnosis-like state.
