Endurance Sports Medicine

Abstract

Recent increased participation in endurance athletics has been mirrored by increase knowledge about the impact of exercise on the cardiovascular system. Extensive contributions to the scientific literature have been made in recent years fully characterizing cardiovascular adaptations to long-term endurance training. The aim of this document is to synthesize recent advances in knowledge regarding the cardiovascular implications of exercise to provide clinicians with the foundational knowledge required to care for the athlete’s heart.
