Abstract

Smoking is a well-known risk factor for many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and various malignancies. Smoking is associated with higher insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and dyslipidemia. It is strongly linked with both increased incidence and severity of diabetes. It has also shown to be associated with higher risk of diabetes complications, especially macrovascular complications. Smoking cessation is one of the important targets for diabetes control and the prevention of chronic diabetes complications.
