Abstract
In ubiquitous systems, multimedia contents may require adaptation in order to fit the restrictions resulting from users context switches. In this regard, much effort has been made to devise efficient methods that sense users contextual information, analyze them to identify the contextual restraints with respect to multimedia documents properties and finally execute adaptation actions to provide adapted contents accordingly. In this paper, we review the state-of-the-art about multimedia adaptation approaches by making analysis and comparisons between them according to various criteria. The aim is to make an objective assessment by giving their advantages and potential drawbacks, and thus open up prospects for the future.
