Abstract

Lower island trapezius musculocutaneous flap (LITF) is often considered as the “pectoralis major flap of the back” and could be utilized as an alternative to microvascular free tissue transfer or other pedicled flaps such as latissimus dorsi in the reconstruction of various posterior neck or scalp defects. Donor site allows primary closure in most instances. LTIF can also be used as a pedicled muscle flap without a skin paddle and a skin graft can be placed on the muscle to add an epithelial layer, if needed.
