Matrix Head and Neck Reconstruction

Abstract

A fibular free flap (FFF) used for reconstruction of the mandible has become the most commonly utilized osteocutaneous free flap. FFF can be either osteocutaneous, containing both a bony and skin component, or solely osseous. While alternative flaps are an option, FFF remains the most popular due to the greatest length of bone available for harvest and the highly vascular pedicles. Similar to other free flaps, the FFF has a 95% overall success rate and has been found to give the most favorable functional and esthetic results.
