Abstract
Reconstruction of the mandible using microvascular free tissue transfer was introduced in the early 1970s, first using a vascularized rib as the original graft. As time has progressed, a number of new techniques have been developed to reconstruct the mandible and the overlaying skin. First introduced in 1978 was the radial forearm flap, presented by Goufan, Baoqui, and Yuzhi in Shenyang.
