Abstract
A variety of reconstructive techniques have been described for buccal defects. The first-line reconstructive option is the fasciocutaneous radial forearm free flap (RFFF). The goal of reconstructive surgery includes restoration of function and cosmesis. In that regard, the RFFF has many advantages including suitable skin thinness and pliability, relative sparsity of hair, the ability to design multiple skin paddles, and simultaneous ablation and flap harvest by two surgical teams. It has been shown that most patients preserve open-mouth width and ultimately return to an oral diet with intelligible speech after reconstruction. With success rates of 95–100%, the RFFF provides a reliable and versatile reconstructive option for buccal defects.
