Abstract

The Estlander flap is one of several reconstructive techniques for moderately sized lip defects of significant tissue loss. The Estlander flap is a “lip-switch” flap in which a portion of the uninvolved opposite lip is rotated across the mouth and into the defect of the involved lip with its preserved blood supply. In contrast to the Abbé flap, the Estlander flap is useful when defects of the lip extend laterally to involve the oral commissure.
