Abstract
Defects of the upper lip can often extend larger or deeper than those easily repaired with the typical local flaps (O to T advancement, V-Y island advancement). In these cases, utilizing an advancement flap will likely pull the lip too much to one side causing significant distortion. Bringing in redundant melolabial skin can solve this problem.
