Abstract
A variety of nomenclature is used for this flap and its variants: sliding dorsal flap, dorsal nasal flap, Rieger flap, frontonasal flap, etc. The advantages of this flap are its good blood supply from axial branches of the angular artery, and its large size which distributes wound closure tension across the entire nose. This flap has been modified over the years to allow for better movement by including a back-cut towards the medial canthus. It utilizes the skin of the glabella and entire nasal dorsum and is well suited for larger defects of the dorsum and even to the nasal tip. One of the main detractors of this flap is its tendency to cause nasal tip or alar elevation.
