Abstract
Leukemia is a blood cancer that begins when healthy blood cells change and get out of control, this is one of the most common types of cancer in children, and to a lesser extent it is also detected in young people and adults; whereas epigenetics is responsible for studying the changes in gene function that are hereditary and cannot be attributed to alterations in the DNA sequence; Epigenetics has become an important part of the development and normal functioning of cells, by means of which it is possible to arrive at exhaustive studies that allow us to confront and understand some abnormalities that may occur in human beings. There are several epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation that were addressed such as: DNA methylation, histone modifications and microRNA expression. The objective of this research was to determine the epigenetic methods that solve the control of leukemia and to select the most efficient in terms of human health, especially children and elderly adults, who are the most prone to suffer from it; and in Ecuador it has been determined that there is a high mortality rate due to leukemia. The type of research had a mixed approach, using content analysis and reading record; likewise, the information was collected from scientific articles specialized in the subject. Also, the survey technique was used for data collection and analysis. Analyzing the different types of epigenetic therapies, it was found that DNA methylation is one of the optimal solutions.
