Abstract
While accusations of ideological distortion of the news can be traced to the beginning of the American republic, during the Age of Trump “fake news” has become a calling card of conservatives who believe that the professional legacy media are not only biased, but conspiring against Trump and his agenda. The use of the “fake news” strategy accompanies one of the more significant non-technological developments in media over the last fifty years: ideologically aligned media outlets.
