Abstract

This chapter deals with the tenets involved in the construction of ballasted track (conventional track) and ballastless track (slab track). In addition, it provides a synthetic description of railway track components as well as materials, characteristics and properties.

    Although the lines of equal pressure are bulb-shaped, yet for simplicity, the load dispersion can be assumed to be linear with a given inclination to the vertical.

    Anti-vibrating mats are characterised with a variable density ranging between 75 –170 kg/m3, resistance to compression between 14 and 50 kPa, static elasticity modulus between 0.15 and 0.85 N/mm2 and dynamic elasticity modulus between 0.35 N/mm2 and 3.6 N/mm2.
