Arachnoid Cysts

Abstract

Arachnoid cysts (ACs) are a closely related entity with hydrocephalus. The aim of this chapter is to present the etiological and pathogenetic features of the formation of ACs and the particular forms of these cysts in their close relationship with the hydrocephalus phenomenon. The clinical signs and symptoms, the location, the differential diagnosis, and the natural evolution are presented and discussed. The surgical management options, microsurgery, shunting, and minimally invasive techniques are very important elements in the armamentarium of neurosurgeons and pediatric neurosurgeons in order to treat these two often combined pathological entities, ACs and hydrocephalus. Accurate management and optimal results for ACs are coming out because of multidisciplinary approach.
