Abstract
During their stay in ICU, many critically ill patients need to leave the unit to undergo treatment (e.g., surgery or interventional procedures) or specific imaging (e.g., CT scans or MRI). It is important to acknowledge that transporting an ICU patient is not just a simple continuation of critical care therapy outside the unit. It has significant risks and challenges. That is why this task needs meticulous planning and a focused approach. The responsible physician needs to know how to assess a patient before transport, and, how to plan for resources and equipment during the transport to minimize any risks. It is also important to understand what monitoring is necessary and how to deal with any technical or medical challenges during transport to provide the best care for your patient during this time.
