Abstract

In this paper, we present the contents of a 1519 Portuguese treatise of commercial arithmetic, the Tratado de Prática Darysmetica, by Gaspar Nicolas, with a special focus on the recreational problems that accompany the algorithms and exercises meant for commercial practice.
