Abstract
Regulation in healthcare is defined as the monitoring, maintenance or actions placed by an authority in order to maintain a high and safe level of care. This is currently maintained by the Department of Health, the Care Quality Commission, and Monitor for NHS Foundation Trusts. These three organisations do not operate in isolation. The healthcare structure in the UK is made up of numerous institutions, colleges and bodies that act in synchrony to provide regulation at the different levels and aspect of healthcare. This chapter describes these various bodies and how they act to regulate the different aspects of healthcare.
