Abstract

The Cartesian product is the starting point for dealing with the concept of relation from a rigorous point of view. Various motivations and examples match the presentation of the theory and the applications. The chapter is mainly devoted to binary relations in a set, in particular the order relations and the equivalence relations are extensively developed from a theoretical and applicative point of view. Preference relations, related to orderings, and partitions are connected with applications.
