Abstract
The thyroid, parathyroids, and adrenals are the three major endocrine glands discussed in this chapter. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is utilized as an important tool in the pathological assessment of lesions detected in these organs, particularly in the thyroid gland for which the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) has been accepted and widely implemented. This chapter illustrates and discusses the cytomorphological features of normal elements identified in these organs, correlates these findings with their histologic features, and highlights potential pitfalls associated with the misinterpretation of normal elements as lesional material.
