Normal Cytology

Abstract

Normal cellular material from the skin, soft tissue, and musculoskeletal system may be encountered as contaminants in fine needle aspiration cytology, touch preparations, and scrapings when sampling a superficial lesion or deep-seated organ. This chapter focuses on the spectrum of normal soft tissue and bone cytology including adipose, muscle, and various other connective tissues. It also covers the cytology of normal cellular elements from the skin.
