Abstract

The aim of this clinical case is to highlight the treatment of an empyema by placement of a Seldinger Cook 14 F small-bore chest drain at the bedside of the patient. Subsequently, in addition to antibiotic therapy, 100,000 IU intrapleural Urokinase was used for 5 consecutive days. The case report underlines that an empyema requires an immediate therapeutic strategy, and the smaller-bore tubes may be the initial treatment of choice for pleural infection.
