Abstract
This chapter explains some of the principles that have been followed during the production of this and the previous edition of the textbook ‘Practical Pharmaceutics’. The basic principle is that the structure follows the patient’s need. Concepts such as preparation, manufacturing, reconstitution, aseptic handling, hazardous substances are defined and explained to avoid ambiguity. Specific terminology on technological operations is also explained. Where applicable, spelling and notations used in de European Pharmacopoeia have been followed.
