Abstract

Literacy is ever-present in sports and baseball is no exception. Baseball literacy has evolved from the ability to read and understand information about the sport and has grown and expanded to include being able to analyze and communicate in analytical and numerical language. Players and coaches with baseball literacy will be more powerful and successful in the game. In this chapter, I explore an approach to baseball that allows players, coaches, and all those involved to participate in the advancement of the sport and to adapt with the evolution of literacy in baseball. By supporting teachers and coaches in creating athletes who are fluent in baseball literacy through meaningful engagements, baseball players will achieve success and help others within the sport to do the same.
