Abstract

Conceptual literacy considerations from the disciplines of motor development, motor learning, and physical education are presented in this chapter. A brief overview of the history and evolution of physical literacy is discussed to further understanding of implementation practices and barriers. The foundational elements of motor development and motor learning are covered to provide a context for further discussion in Chap. 15. The relationships between physical literacy, physical activity and physical education are discussed to aid implementation of physical literacy in the classroom.
