Abstract

This chapter explicitly connects metacognitive literacy strategies in the non-movement-based classroom and the movement-based areas of study. We focus on the metacognitive strategies of analysis, discourse, supporting evidence, summary, visualization, and self-monitoring. We then provide practical examples that can be used in the movement literacies (e.g., literacies of the physical education and dance classroom). We introduce the chapter with specific teaching scenarios before examining the metacognitive strategies across the school curriculum, including dance, physical education and sports. Each section features practical applications for instruction.
