Abstract

This chapter contextualizes the contributions by IAMCR members to the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) efforts to renew the debate on a New World Information and Communication Order (NWICO), by drawing attention to inequalities in North–South information flows, cultural biases of technology, lack of communication infrastructure in low-income countries, and the need to foster communication rights and a right to communicate.
