The MacBride Round Tables: In Pursuit of Equality, Plurality, and Diversity

Abstract

This chapter discusses the work of the MacBride Round Tables on Communication. These were established when the need for a New World Information and Communication Order was removed from the international agenda. The chapter assesses the Round Tables’ impact on subsequent debates in the field of communication rights and explains how Round Tables involving civil society representatives and IAMCR members aimed to foster equality, plurality, and diversity in global communications and mass media.
