Engendering Migration Journey

Abstract

In this concluding chapter, I will summarize my main findings and highlight the contributions of the study. The limitations will also be discussed to provide directions for future research. Previous chapters have investigated the identity negotiation, ethnicity navigation, and womanhood reinvention of Thai migrant women in Hong Kong through their journey of transnational migration by focusing on their life experiences from the individual, family, community, and social perspectives. The findings in this study revealed how these Thai migrant women experienced the transnational migration journey from Thailand to Hong Kong. I have demonstrated that along with identity negotiation between the home country and the host country, Thai migrant women develop an in-between identity. This in-betweenness is experienced while they perform multiple social roles in both the home country and the host country. These insights enrich our understanding of transnational migration and migrant women in Southeast Asia and Asia nowadays.
