Urinary Fistula

Abstract

Vesicocutaneous fistula is the abnormal communication between the bladder and any part of the skin with the consequent leakage of urine. Its formation is associated with many different causes and there is no formal classification for its study. There are many situations where a VCF can form, congenital, acquired or iatrogenic because of pre-existing perivesical inflammatory processes. The clinical presentation is characterized by urine output through a skin sinus. The best diagnostic imaging procedure resource is computed tomograhy cystography and the management of VCF rely on multiple factors and etiologies such as inflammatory disorders, associated illness and injury and the general condition of the patient. The treatment must be individualized in each case.
