Abstract
After a detailed description of the history of wool, all relevant sheep breeds are discussed as are wool shearing methods (manual, with robots). The structure and chemical composition as well as the fiber properties are outlined in detail and with many figures. The wool classification is explained and the development of wool fineness, market and wool trade over the last decades are covered for all major producers. Areas of application depending on wool properties and wool seals conclude the chapter.
