Abstract
This commentary on the chapter “Unbelieving Wisdom: Does Critiquing Reports of Perceived Growth Following Adversity Constitute an Epistemic Injustice?” agrees with the idea that there needs to be a comprehensive assessment of posttraumatic growth but disagrees that current measurements of posttraumatic growth constitute an epistemic injustice, as they are based on authentic reflections from trauma survivors. Tedeschi and Blevins argue that viewing posttraumatic growth as personality change is a straw man argument that distracts from the fundamentals of posttraumatic growth theory. Posttraumatic growth goes beyond personality change to reflect transformation; something we can draw upon and grow from continuously. Trauma does not guarantee transformation, but it is an opportunity for transformation and growth.
