Abstract

Siebrecht Vanhooren comments on “Wise Coping during the Great Depression Years” by Monika Ardelt and Jared Kingsbury and how individuals might cope with socio-economic challenges. He touches upon how managing uncertainty is a hallmark of wisdom and how uncertainty can prompt existential vulnerabilities. With proper self-reflection and humility, uncertainty can catalyze posttraumatic growth through a sense of connection. In addition, in order to cultivate awe, we must feel a connection to ourselves, others, and the world. Facing this type of uncertainty and fostering a connection among communities can help with global solidarity.
