Abstract
Plews-Ogan continues to answer the essential question of “why is it that some people develop wisdom in response to life’s challenges, and others do not?” and “What resources are essential to enable people to develop wisdom in response to these life challenges?” that is proposed by Glück in her chapter “How MORE Life Experience Fosters Wise Coping”. Plews-Ogan discusses how the narrative arc of wisdom may include many stories of adversity that contributes to a larger arc of growth. She wonders whether wisdom resources are applied in response to adversity or if they are developed by certain circumstances of adversity, or both. The idea of integrating an experience into one’s understanding of the self may also be a significant factor in coping with adversity. Finally, she emphasizes the importance of wisdom-generating responses to adversity and its impact on community.
