Abstract

Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is a multifocal tumor of lymphatic endothelial cell origin associated with human type 8 herpesvirus (HHV-8). Four variants of KS (classic, endemic African, epidemic HIV-related, and iatrogenic type) are recognized and characterized by different epidemiological and clinical features as well as biological behavior but similar histopathological findings. Clinical staging is extremely important to guide the treatment choice. Therapeutic approaches are chosen on the basis of the extent of lesions and the involvement of internal organs.
