Abstract
Friends, foes, freedom fighters, falcons and living with fear. When Ralph answered the call to work in Rhodesia, these were some of the things that awaited him. His three years there marked a career-defining and life-changing transition from clinical medicine to specializing in drug safety—as he witnessed the dramatic birth of a new nation, Zimbabwe.
‘There is always something new out of Africa.’
Pliny the Elder, Historia Naturalis
