Abstract
While segmentectomy continues to rise as a preferred approach to early-stage lung cancer, the technical performance of these operations can be more challenging than lobectomy and requires more in-depth understanding of the pulmonary segmental anatomy and relationships between the major bronchovascular structures. Resection of the left upper lobe apical-posterior S1 + 2 segment represents a potentially less complex technical procedure than other segments and requires less extensive dissection to expose overall straightforward anatomy. This chapter describes segmental anatomy and technical considerations for performing resection of left S1 + 2.
